Kym Iffert

Assistant Trainer

As a child, Kym would often be seen with a book about dog breeds tucked under her arm. Her love of dogs was cemented when at 8 years old, a family friend dropped by their home with an injured cocker spaniel who had been saved from a life of abuse and neglect, begging the family to keep her. That once terrified dog spent the next 17 years showing the kind of unconditional love that only pets can.

After graduating from Purdue University, and while living with her husband and 3 daughters Kym left a successful career when Diamond, a rescued Rottweiler suffering from fear aggression, turned her life upside down. It became her mission to study dog behavior so she could help others learn to understand and improve the relationships people have with their pets and help dogs in and from shelters through education and training.

She now lives with her family and trains with Dino, a yellow lab who is a registered therapy dog and all-around people pleaser, Sugar, a super-intelligent border collie mix from a rescue and another adopted Rottweiler named Chopper.

Kym received her dog training certification through Animal Behavior College and works as a mentor trainer teaching potential dog trainers the science and methods of successful force-free training. She continues to attend instructional seminars and workshops to further her understanding and continue to improve her skills and education. Since 2011, she has been the Humane Education Director, Dog Obedience Instructor and a Dog Behavior Consultant at Hinsdale Humane Society where she has been an active volunteer since 2006.
